Katy, Texas
- More than 160 golfers will tee off at the 17th Annual Tomorrow's
Child Golf Benefit at Pine Forest Golf Club in Houston on Monday,
June 19 to support the abused and neglected children at Krause
Children's Center in Katy. The goal: to raise more than $100,000
to fund extra-curricular activities for the residents.
The Honorable Glenn Hegar, Texas
State Representative for District 28 and Senate hopeful, will
serve as Honorary Chair of the tournament. This is the second
year that Hegar has been involved in the benefit.
"Krause is very near to my
heart," said Hegar. "Through the Tomorrow's Child
Golf Tournament, we have the opportunity, as a community, to
help make a brighter future for the special girls and boys at
the Krause Center."
Hegar has been inspiring bright
futures at Krause in a number of ways over the past several
years, serving as keynote speaker at the first annual Trinity
Charter School Eighth Grade Graduation Ceremony in 2005 and
becoming a mentor to a resident at the center.
Residents of the Krause Center
will also get to enjoy the tournament. Select girls and boys
will join the golfers for lunch and get a putting lesson from
volunteers at the course.
"The community has really
put their support into making this tournament a success for
the kids at Krause," said Joy Castner, director of volunteer
services at the Krause Center. "We have more sponsors,
more golfers and more volunteers than ever before. I think that
being at the tournament and visiting with the children and staff
gives people the chance to see that their support makes a direct
impact on the lives of the kids at Krause."
Pine Forest Golf Club is located
at 18003 Clay Rd., Houston, Texas.
Krause Children's Center serves
boys and girls, ages 11 to 17, who suffer from severe emotional
and behavioral problems, mostly as a result of past abuse and
neglect. Krause provides specialized care in a secure, structured
environment where residents can receive therapy, attend school,
enjoy recreational activities and are offered voluntary spiritual
care.
Krause Children's Center is an
affiliated ministry of Lutheran Social Services, the social
service arm of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the
